450,000 Indigenous People Face Eviction in India

The Indian government is threatening to evict 450,000 Indigenous people from the areas being reserved under Project Tiger. Since the beginning of the project, 90,000 Indigenous peoples have already been displaced, many of them multiple times.

While Project Tiger has successfully protected tigers in India, it has come at a significant cost to the indigenous people living in those areas. Studies conducted by both the government of India and Survival International, show that in areas where the Indigenous people and park rangers work in collaboration, tiger preservation is higher.
